Altrincham French Festival
As a fabulous celebration of French culture - the Altrincham French Festival is a fantastic event which brings French food, drink and community spirit to South Manchester.
The History & Future of Altrincham French Festival!
The inaugural French Festival was held in Stamford Park, Hale over 2 days in July 2013 and attracted nearly 700 people! Following the success of the event, the Group canvassed the views of local residents and there was overwhelming support to repeat the event in 2014.
A second festival was held in Stamford Park in July 2014 and it attracted nearly 3,000 people - exceeding the organiser's expectations!
In 2015, the third Altrincham French Festival was a huge success, taking place over a weekend in July and including a brand new Bastille Evening at Bowdon Rugby Club (complete with three course dinner, live entertainment and fireworks!). The free family event at Stamford Park was very popular and it attracted a record crowd of nearly 5,000 people! See the photos for yourself!
Passionate about looking after the grounds of Stamford Park, the festival has donated resources to help the Friends of Stamford Park maintain areas of the park throughout the years.
The Altrincham French Festival has raised nearly £8,000 for the local Marie Curie Cancer group in Trafford throughout the years!
The idea of a French cultural event came about over Christmas dinner in December 2012 during a conversation between the event’s founder Zainul Sachak and some of his family members who live in France.
An Organising Group was set up in early 2013 by volunteers living in Altrincham who liked the idea of raising awareness of French culture in the local community and supporting the regeneration of the town. The aim was to work with local businesses, community organisations and schools to organise a free French cultural event in Altrincham linked closely with Bastille Day celebrations.
The festival is a non-profit organisation which uses a combination of paid skills and volunteers to deliver the event.
In an addition the festival is now collaborating with a number of cultural, arts and sports organisations to deliver elements of the event.
Funding for the event is secured from a combination of grants, sponsorship, fees from exhibitors /stallholders, advertising and ticket revenue.
The French Festival will remain free to the public.
